I am currently planning a driving trip around the country that centers around visiting as many of the top brewers and blenders of sour ales as I can get to. My research has led me to the beers of Jester King which I had heard of but never seen in the wild. So when I had the chance to grab a couple from France 44 I was thrilled.
My first bottle was Aurelian Lure which is a barrel aged golden refermented with apricots. A bit of citrus and apricot on the nose not so much on the mouth tart with a bit of funk. Based on other reviews I’m not sure this bottle was a good example or perhaps I was a bit off. The second bottle however was a nice bottle of Colour 5 refermented with blueberries that had a wonderful berry nose, a bit more funk and a hint of that nice berry flavor over the tartness. Definitely looking to get my hands on some more from Jester King. I find it really helps to go back and read what others have written but I think I need to do that a bit more while tasting as I find myself extremely limited in discerning flavors and characteristics properly. A skill I hope to improve on.
