East Coast Beer Run Day 4

Is it only four days? It seems longer. It was a light day yesterday. I got to sleep in while I waited for things to open in Morganton. It’s a really cute town with a bunch of quaint shops. I had my first bite of Waffle House. I have to confess I don’t see what all the fuss is about. I then headed over to Fonta Flora taproom, where I got to taste a nice saison and a small taste of the Jitterbug Wild ale, which was delicious. I then headed out to the Fonta Flora Whippoorwill Farm. I’ll be honest. They make it sound a lot more picturesque in the descriptions. It’s the same items as in town, plus or minus one or two, plus picnic tables and lawn games. I was able to pick up a bottle of the cherry Appalachian Wild Ale, though, as well as the Carrot Cake Stout. I also met my new feline friend, who snuggled on my beer carrier bag while I enjoyed my beverage. I lost connectivity at the farm and could not map out to head North. Wireless connectivity should be provided. Luckily the kind bartender got on his phone and gave me directions 80s style to get me on my way.

It was a much longer drive than expected, winding through those Carolina mountains. I finally got a connection when I reached the peak at a lookout. Nice view of the valley from Brown Mountain. I had not driven on roads like that since my New England days. Miles and miles of winding roads with sharp corners. I finally worked my way to a stop at a cider shop before heading across Virginia to set myself up for a stop at Abermarle Cider. I must make note of the odd driving behavior upon entering Virginia. Immediately everyone started going at least five MPH slower than the already slow speed limit. I decided the best approach was to follow their lead. It was painfully slow, but I assume it was for a reason. I was going to head over to The Veil Brewing, but I already had two bottles in the car, and the drive up the I95 corridor would take so long that I may miss my stop In Connecticut at Area 2 Experimental Brewing. There is no way to predict the traffic on a weekday after a holiday in 4 major cities so it may be a test of will today. Getting close to my home state of Connecticut. I can feel it.
